Why a PDF visiting card doesn't work, and what to send instead
A PDF shows your card. It doesn't put your number in anyone's phone. Here is what each format actually gives the person you send it to - and a free maker for the one that does.
A PDF visiting card is a document to look at: nothing in it goes into the other person's contacts, so they still have to type your number. Send a contact file instead - the vCard format, saved as .vcf - which a contacts app can add, or a link to a profile with a Save to contacts button. On WhatsApp, the Contact option sends a contact from your address book.

vCard is the standard for this job: its specification describes it as a format "for representing and exchanging a variety of information about individuals". A PDF was never meant to carry a contact.

Fill in what you want people to save, then download the .vcf and send it instead of a PDF. It is made in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

The file follows vCard 3.0. Send it on WhatsApp as a Document, by email, or over Bluetooth.
Three ways to send your details in a chat
- Share yourself as a contact. Save your own details as a contact on your phone, then in the chat use the attachment button and choose Contact. WhatsApp's Contact option sends contacts saved in your phone's address book.
- Send the .vcf file. The same attachment menu has Document, which takes any file - the contact file from the maker above included.
- Send your profile link. Paste the link into the chat. It is the only one of the three that stays right when your details change, because you edit the page, not the message.

Can someone save my number from a PDF visiting card?

Is a PDF ever the right choice?
For a brochure, a price list or a portfolio, yes - that is what documents are for. Send it alongside your contact, not instead of it.
Does my contact file update when my number changes?
No. A .vcf is a copy of your details on the day you send it, just like a PDF. If you want something that stays current, send a link to a profile you can edit.
