Business Location on a Card: Maps Link, Plus Code, DIGIPIN
Help people find the door

Your business location on a visiting card: Google Maps link, Plus Code or DIGIPIN?

'Near the temple, second lane, opposite the bakery' works until a customer's driver can't find it. India now has three ways to point to an exact spot. Here is what each one is, where each belongs, and a converter that makes all three from one pin.

Put a Google Maps link on the profile your card opens, so a tap starts directions, and print the area or a landmark on the card. A Plus Code, such as 7J2R288R+9Q, is Google's short code for a spot without a street address. A DIGIPIN is India Post's 10-character code for a square of about 4 m by 4 m. The converter below makes all three from one pin.

Google Maps link, Plus Code and DIGIPIN, compared

A Google Maps link opens directions on any phone or computer. A Plus Code is a short open-source code Google created for places without street addresses. A DIGIPIN is India Post's open-source code for a roughly 4 m square. Plus Codes and DIGIPINs can be worked out from coordinates with no internet connection, using each project's published code; a Maps link needs Google to open it.

From Google's Maps URLs documentation, the Open Location Code project, and India Post's DIGIPIN release and repository, read on 24 October 2026.

One pin, three codes

Make a Maps link, Plus Code and DIGIPIN for your business

Drop a pin on your door in Google Maps, copy the coordinates or the link, and paste them here. You get a Maps link that opens directions on any phone, your Plus Code, and your DIGIPIN, worked out with India Post's own published method. Nothing leaves your browser.

Card, profile, chat, forms

Which location goes where

On the printed card, the area or a landmark people recognise, because nobody types a code from paper. On the profile your card opens, a Google Maps button, so a tap starts directions. In WhatsApp, the Maps link. On delivery and service forms, your DIGIPIN beside the address. A Plus Code only where there is no street address to give.

  1. The printed card

"Kakkanad, near the Infopark gate" beats a code. Keep the print short: what to put on a visiting card.

  2. The profile behind the card

A Maps button under your address. On a Beeps profile, Google Maps location is on every plan.

  3. WhatsApp and email

The Maps link from the converter. It opens in the Maps app on phones that have it, and in a browser everywhere else.

  4. Forms that ask for exact location

Your DIGIPIN as an extra field beside the address and PIN code, the way the government describes it.

Being found on Google Maps in the first place is a different job: how to rank higher on Google Maps.

India's new grid

DIGIPIN explained: a grid of 4-metre squares, and a 2026 format change

DIGIPIN splits the area from 2.5° to 38.5° north and 63.5° to 99.5° east into a 4 by 4 grid, then splits each square the same way, ten times over. Each step adds one character, so ten characters name a square about 4 m on a side. Since May 2026, India Post's code writes the ten characters as one block, with no hyphens.

The first level of the DIGIPIN grid with its 16 symbols, and the same split repeating; drawn by Beeps Card from India Post's open-source encoder.

The symbols are the 16 in the grid above: the digits 2 to 9 and the letters C, F, J, K, L, M, P and T. India Post's repository describes each code as representing a unit of about 4 m by 4 m, and its encoder, updated in May 2026, returns one continuous ten-character string; older material splits the same code with hyphens after the third and sixth characters.

The government calls DIGIPIN an "additional address attribute": it sits beside your address rather than replacing it. The release launching the Know Your DIGIPIN portal says it was reviewed and adopted under the National Geospatial Policy 2022 and is open to ministries, states, institutions and anyone else to use.

FAQ

Location codes: questions

What is DIGIPIN?

DIGIPIN, the Digital Postal Index Number, is India Post's open-source code for a location: ten characters that stand for a grid square of roughly 4 metres by 4 metres, worked out from its latitude and longitude. The Department of Posts built it with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC, ISRO, and launched the Know Your DIGIPIN portal on 27 May 2025.

How do I find my DIGIPIN?

On India Post's Know Your DIGIPIN portal, from your location or by typing latitude and longitude, or with the converter on this page, which uses India Post's own open-source method. Copy your coordinates from Google Maps first: they appear when you drop a pin.

Sources: Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Communications

Does DIGIPIN replace my PIN code or address?

No. The government describes DIGIPIN as an additional address attribute: something to add beside your address so services can find the exact spot. Keep your address and PIN code on everything that asks for them.

What is a Plus Code on Google Maps?

A short code for a place, such as 7J2R288R+9Q, from Google's open-source Open Location Code. A standard Plus Code covers an area about 14 metres across, and the project says it is designed to work where buildings are not numbered or streets are not named.

What location should I put on my visiting card?

Print the area or a landmark on the card, and put a Google Maps link on the profile the card opens, so a tap starts directions. Add your DIGIPIN where a delivery or service form asks for exact location, and a Plus Code if your door has no street address.
