A digital visiting card for restaurants, with a menu that follows FSSAI's rules
Your menu is the first thing a guest reads on your profile. FSSAI has rules for what a menu shows, and they apply the same on a phone as on a printed card.
Yes. FSSAI's 2020 display regulations say every dish on a menu needs a veg or non-veg logo and its allergen information. Restaurants with a Central licence or outlets in 10 or more places must add calories per serving. Your 14-digit licence number belongs on your bills and premises, and guests can check it in FSSAI's app.

Four rules a restaurant menu on a phone still has to meet
They come from FSSAI's Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020, in the version FSSAI publishes dated 3 April 2025. The regulation numbers below are its own. Check FSSAI's site for any later amendment before you print or publish.
Every dish carries a veg or non-veg logo and its allergens
Food service establishments must show, against the items on the menu cards or boards, allergen information and a logo for veg or non-veg. Allergens can be shown as easy-to-understand symbols.
Larger operators add calories
A restaurant with a Central licence, or with outlets at 10 or more locations, must give calories in kcal per serving and the serving size, plus the reference line about a 2,000 kcal day.
Full nutrition information on request
You must provide nutritional information, and organic information for anything you claim as organic, on request, in a booklet, a handout or on your website. A file on your profile can be that website.
Your number on the premises and on every bill
Display your registration or licence number where food is sold. FSSAI's FAQ adds that the 14-digit number must be on cash receipts, invoices and bills, and that guests can verify a business in the Food Safety Connect app.
See a dish written the way FSSAI's rules ask
Pick the logo, tick the allergens and add calories if the rule applies to you. The line below is what to paste into the dish description on your profile. It runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
Can this go on my profile? Pick a line
Each answer comes from FSSAI's own text or Google's policy, with the rule behind it. The table lists 10 items: 6 marked "Show it", 2 marked "Depends on you" and 2 marked "Leave off".

Where a profile beats a printed menu
A printed menu is out of date the day a price changes. A profile you open with a tap, or with a QR code on the table, is edited once and correct for everyone. Guests open it with no app, on an iPhone XS or later or any NFC Android phone.
Product listings
List dishes with prices and a photo. Add the veg or non-veg mark and allergens to the description of each one.
PDF catalogue or brochure
Upload the full menu and your nutrition and ingredients file. It opens in the browser, so a guest can read it at the table.
Appointment booking
Let a guest reserve a time. Bookings show as a list or a calendar, and marking one complete emails the guest.
Google review button
One button, the same for every guest, with nothing offered in return. It sits on the profile next to the menu.
Direct UPI payments
A button that opens the guest's own UPI app with your UPI ID filled in. The money goes straight to your bank.
WhatsApp store
Guests pick dishes and the order arrives in your WhatsApp chat. There is a restaurant design among the store's eight layouts.
Before you ask guests to review you, read what Google allows when you ask. You can make the QR for the table with the free Google review QR maker.
What a restaurant pays
The menu, the nutrition file and table reservations are on Basic. The Google review button and UPI are on Pro. The WhatsApp store is on Enterprise.
Questions from restaurant owners
Does the menu on my digital profile have to follow FSSAI's menu rules?
Treat it as a menu. The regulation covers "menu cards or boards or booklets", and the safe reading is that a menu you publish to customers should carry the same information wherever it appears. Every dish should show a veg or non-veg logo and its allergen information, and larger chains must add calories.
What must every dish on the menu show?
A logo for veg or non-veg, and information about food allergens. The allergens are the eight groups the regulation names: cereals containing gluten, crustacean, milk, egg, fish, nuts, soy, and sulphite at 10 mg/kg or more. Allergens may be shown as easy-to-understand symbols.
When do I have to show calories?
If your restaurant has a Central licence or outlets at 10 or more locations. Then each item needs its calories in kcal per serving and the serving size, and the menu must carry the line "An average active adult requires 2,000 kcal energy per day, however, calorie needs may vary". A single-outlet restaurant with a state licence or registration is not named in that rule, though the regulation lets FSSAI extend it to other establishments.
What is the veg and non-veg logo?
A green filled circle inside a green-outlined square for vegetarian food, and a brown filled triangle inside a brown-outlined square for non-vegetarian food. The regulation gives minimum sizes for packaged food and also asks for the declaration to be prominently displayed on pamphlets, leaflets and advertisements in any media.
Do I have to put my FSSAI number on the profile?
The regulation requires the number on your premises, and FSSAI says the 14-digit licence or registration number must be on cash receipts, invoices and bills. It is not a rule for a profile, but showing it helps customers, who can check any licence in FSSAI's Food Safety Connect app or on the FoSCoS site.

What if my licence is suspended?
A food business must stop immediately. FSSAI's FAQ says carrying on food business activity on a suspended or cancelled licence is unlawful and attracts penal action. Take the profile's ordering and booking links offline until it is restored.
Can I ask guests for Google reviews?
Yes, within Google's rules: no discounts or free dishes in return, no asking only the happy ones. Our guide to what is allowed goes through sixteen common practices.
Do guests need an app to open the menu?
No. A tap on the NFC card or a scan of the QR code opens the profile in the phone's browser.
